Blepharoplasty is performed to reduce the wrinkling and/or bulging of eyelid tissue. Not all patients need to have both excess skin and excess fat (bags under the eyes) removed. In many cases only one or the other procedure is needed. Every wrinkle and fold of skin around the eyes cannot be removed. Most recently, there have been innovations in eye surgery to preserve and redistribute fat around the eyes rather than just to remove it. This results in less of a hollow, "done" appearance.
The Sugical Procedure
The surgery takes approximately one to two hours to complete.
What To Expect After Surgery
There is usually little pain associated with this type of surgery. Swelling, bruising and of the eyelids varies with each patient and is usually slight. Most of the swelling and bruising is gone within five to ten days, but it is not unusual for the discoloration to last longer.
Resumption of Physical Activities
Work and social activities are usually curtailed for a period of three to ten days following surgery. Driving may be resumed in two to three days. Most people are back to desk work after a long weekend. Working out may be resumed after two to six weeks.

with you.
I have to admit that as a nurse watching you in surgery,
I saw the work you did and knew you had talent. That combined with your
gentle nature and positive attitude made me totally at ease as your patient.

I know nurses don't make the best patients and I apologize
for not obeying all orders to a tee!! It was hard to rest - I felt great

Looking back at pictures, I realize I always had alot of
skin above my eyes. But as I got into my forties, it really began to droop.
My friend recommended Dr. Pousti. The staff is really friendly and my
consultation wasn't rushed. I was able to ask and get answers to the questions
I wanted to know. One thing I felt Dr. Pousti understood is that I didn't
want to
look totally different. I just didn't want to look tired when I wasn't.
I had my surgery in July. I was awake for the surgery with no pain. I
went home and had dinner a couple hours later. Even though I had medicine
for nausea, I didn't need it. I think that is one of the benefits of local
anesthesia. I also, didn't need any of the pain medication. At the office
you are given a list of post care instuctions and we went over them all.
I made it a point to follow them exactly. I had read enough to know that
healing takes time. If I had any questions all I had to do was call. I
had some bruising, in about a week it had faded and turned a light yellow.
I
went into work (with cover cream)ten days later and everyone loved the
eyes. I also went to a formal affair seventeen days after and the eyes
looked great. They are still getting better all the time. For the first
time if I wanted to wear eyeliner, I can. Before the surgery there really
wasn't any room for it. People who know me say they can tell a difference.
What I hear most is that my eyes look more open. Someone the other day
said they really liked my eye shadow. Same stuff, better eyes. Thank you

I met Dr. Pousti when my friend was having a surgical procedure
(breast augmentation) and was not only impressed by his professional judgment
but supportive nature. I was also impressed by the caring staff’s
concern for the patient’s well-being.
I had begun to notice that my eye make-up seemed to disappear after application
and had finally given up on eye shadow and eye liner. Then I started hearing
almost daily that I looked tired even when I wasn’t. My eyelid folds
were “closing” my eyes.
So, I made an appt. to talk to Dr. Pousti one day after looking at some
before and after photos of eyelids.
I found Dr. Pousti listened to what was and was not of concern for me,
without pushing for anything beyond what I was comfortable with. My objective
was to re-open my eyes not to regain my youth.
The surgery was done in the office under a local anesthesia and the staff
was very supportive and comforting. Dr. Pousti constantly checked on my
comfort during the shore procedure.
After a couple of weeks the mild bruising and swelling were done and the
results were exactly what I’d hoped for. Once again I’m wearing
eye make-up and no one comments on my looking “tired” anymore.
My eyes had always been my best feature and even strangers would comment
on them; so looking in the mirror, I have that “lost” part
of myself back. I can’t begin to put a value on how that feels.

Dr. Dr. Pousti and Staff:
I met Dr. Pousti several years ago. I had a cyst on each side of my face and he removed them for me. I knew from that experience that I had met a wonderful, skilled plastic surgeon with a caring staff. On August 15th of this year I had plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons. Not remarkable these days, but something I remember saying I would never do. Never say never. I looked in the mirror one day and I wasn’t looking at myself, I was looking at a woman who was not aging gracefully. I decided to investigate the possibilities. I knew I wanted to do something about my eyes and my neck. I made an appointment to talk to Dr. Pousti. He explained the procedures to me and let me know that I would not get the results I wanted if I did the neck lift without a face lift. After thinking about it carefully, researching on the internet, talking to friends who have had the same procedures, I made my decision; I was going to have a face lift, neck lift and my eyes done. I could not be any happier with the results.
From the moment I checked into the Alvarado Surgery Center until the day this very day, I have had the very best in care and service. The Alvarado surgery center staff was fantastic. I felt in very capable hands. The anesthesiologist was wonderful, the nurses were wonderful. My family was concerned about caring for me the first day home and when I asked Dr. Pousti’s staff about this, they referred me Julie’s Hideaway Recovery Retreat in the foothills of Mt. Helix and close to Dr. Pousti’s office. That was a fantastic experience. They have such a caring and knowledgeable staff and I highly recommend spending at least the first day after surgery with them.
Each day since the surgery has been better. Friends aren’t sure what I did, change my hair? lose weight? they’re just not sure, but I have received so many compliments since the surgery and no one has guessed that I had a face lift. I did tell my close friends and family and even they can’t get over how natural I look. That’s what I wanted, to look like myself, but to look on the outside how I felt on the inside. Dr. Pousti accomplished that and more. Dr. Pousti has enhanced the feeling of joie de vivre that I have always felt. I am a more confident person today, especially in the work place. I highly recommend Dr. Pousti for whatever your plastic surgery needs may be. He is so skilled at his work. I am so grateful that I went to him.

The
reason I wanted to get my eyes done was simple, I was tired of people telling
me how tired I looked. I didn't want to look younger or pretty, just reasted.
I was very concerned about some of the other eye surgeries I had seen where too
much skin was taken off which left some noticeable imperfections that I wanted
to avoid. I felt very comfortable with going ahead witht he surgery after talking
to Dr. Pousti about these concerns. I was awake during the surgery and had very
little discomfort. Afterwards, I only needed one pain pill.
I followed
Dr. Pousti's orders very closely and I believe that really helped in a speedy
recovery adn very little discoloration and swelling. It takes a few months for
everything to form into shape, but only after 2 months, I am already more than
pleased. There is a fine line between taking too much off and not taking enough
off. I believe that Dr. Pousti has found that fine line.
